About

Our organization was founded by LaDonna Marie Ellis. She passed away unexpectedly in February 2020. Before her passing, LaDonna was on a life changing journey. A journey that changed her physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally,  financially, and educationally. She had also began writing out the plans for Pieces to Peace. Our mission is to empower young minority girls and women by equipping them with the tools they need to become self assured individuals through education, community service/outreach, self-love, mental and physical well being.

Empowering Our Future

Our main goal is to focus on the minority girls and young women in our community. Through education and mentorship, we want to empower these girls and young women mentally,  physically, and spiritually to realize and know their self worth. Although our organization's focus is on minority girls and young women,  any race or ethnicity is more than welcome.

Marita Ellis

President

Hello and welcome to our organization,  Pieces to Peace IMperfect Mentoring. My name is Marita, and I had the honor and privilege of birthing and raising our amazing founder,  LaDonna Ellis. Through the years I was so amazed to watch her grow and mature into the spectacular woman she had become. I think to myself,  "Wow!! Did I have something to do with that!" For all those that were fortunate to cross paths with LaDonna, you know what I'm talking about.  As for me,  I am a mother of three, two girls and one boy. Grandmother of five (I know I don't look it),  three boys and two girls. Wife of 35 plus years. I have a medical background as a CNA for twenty plus years, and eventually becoming a nurse for the latter part of my career. I am now retired, and looking forward to putting my all into this organization.

Jacinda Petties

Vice President

Hello Queens and Princesses. My name is Jacinda. I am very proud to say I am the big sister to our founder,  LaDonna Ellis. Any of you who have met LaDonna, know that I am totally opposite of her. She was a go getter, take no holds, and 100% real, never holding back. Even though I was the big sister, I looked up to LaDonna as a little sister looks up to her older sister. LaDonna was an awesome leader, and I pray to be half the leader she was when I grow up. I love you girl❤❤❤!!  I have been a nurse for over 17 years. I have worked in long term care,  hospice,  corrections, developmental centers, and now psychiatric nursing.  I am a wife and a mother to two boys. I'm pretty easy going. I never sit still,  very OCD. I'm silly and goofy,  and just love to live life and have fun.
I pray that through this organization,  we will be able to reach out to many girls and young women and carry out the plans my sister had dreamed. LaDonna had the biggest heart when it came to children. We want to continue to spread her love to as many as we can reach. My prayer is to empower and enlighten girls and young women in our community, and to help them realize and achieve their full potential.

Lydia Cohen

Secretary

Hello ladies!
I am a mother of 👶🏾👶🏾 boys. I currently reside in Tallahassee, FL. As a teen mom, I had to learn life quickly while also experiencing my young adulthood. I have obtained 2 bachelors degrees, an MBA, held management positions in the corporate world, and became a home owner a few years ago. However, my biggest accomplishment to date has been learning who I am as a mother, friend, daughter, sister, employee, companion, human being, etc. LaDonna befriended me in high school, and the rest is history.  As a third member of our bestie trio, I was fortunate enough to be part of an unbreakable sisterhood.  We loved, laughed, and learned as a unit. The relationship we built is inexplicable. My goal is to be to our girls what LaDonna was to me: a role model, a friend, an accountability partner, and a source of trust and stability. 💜

Hello ladies!!  It is my honor to be able to tell you a little bit about myself.
I grew up in Pensacola, FL with my grandmother and great-grandmother.  So, I have always been blessed to have strong women in my life.  These were some of the hardest working women I have ever known.  My great-grandmother had a 6 grade education, yet still to this day, she is the wisest person I’ve ever known.
I currently live in Kansas.  I came here to live with my mother so that she could help me go to college.  My grandmothers had no clue how to help me.  I never meant to stay, but met a man and here I am. I’ve been landlocked for 40 plus years now.  I can’t wait to get back to the ocean in some way! I’ve been married for 34 plus years and we have been blessed with a daughter and 2 sons.
I work for an asset management company and have spent the majority of my work life in Technology.  I love to solve problems and help people do their jobs better.  I now have a team that does exactly that.  We find ways to innovate and make our company more efficient and hopefully more successful.
I have a deep passion for helping others succeed and using whatever talents and connections I may have to help others elevate and be the best they can be.  I am particularly passionate about our young people.  I love their energy and I love seeing them blossom into young adults.
This is what makes Pieces to Peace so important to me.  I loved LaDonna, even though we didn’t get to see each other a lot.  Her personality was huge, her giving spirit large, and her knack for making others feel special draws me to this foundation.
There is no better way to honor LaDonna than to keep her dreams alive and be a blessing to as many young girls as we possibly can.  I was always taught that it is not how you start, but how you end. We want to help these young ladies have a great ending, regardless of how they started.

Tamara Greene

Support Coordinator

Hello Ladies,
My name is Tamara. I am 29 years old for the 8th time. Born in CT and spent the last 8/9 years prior to the military in Pensacola. I'm active duty Navy married with three (3) children; two girls and one boy. I've traveled alot, been alot of places, done alot of things but it was always so much more fun with my besties.
I currently work in Radiation Safety/Health Physics but plan to transition to Early Childcare Development. I've been bestfriends with LaDonna since high-school 💕. One thing we've always agreed on is the importance of giving back and teaching kids and young adults life skills. My goal post military is to hopefully open a 24 hour daycare, with the focus on single parents and low income parents. I want to honor LaDonna by ensuring we do our jobs as mentors by helping to equip our young ladies with all the tools and knowledge they need to navigate this world.
LaDonna was/is truly inspirational and those who got to know her and/or learn from her know it was a true honor.  She had a passion for people.
I strive to emulate and honor that. I train Sailors for a living and I still use advice I've received from LaDonna.
